Snow Plowing
Riverside Township Ordinances (need to insert) indicates that residents must remove cars from the street wherever possible to allow for effective plowing. Residents who do not have off-street parking may move their vehicles onto their lawns during the snow emergency. Cars should remain off the roads until roads are clear to avoid the snow removal process plowing in the car. Please do not begin shoveling sidewalks and driveways until streets have been cleared. Snow and ice MUST be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours after precipitation has ended. Shoveled snow or snow blowers chutes must NOT deposit snow into the streets or onto sidewalks.
Any resident who does not clear sidewalks or who deposit snow back into the roadway will be subject to summons for Municipal Court with associated fees and fines. If possible, please safely ensure fire hydrants are not blocked.
Public Works Garage Schedule
The garage will open the 4th Saturday of every month from 10 am to 2 pm to collect any of the above materials. You may also bring materials to the garage at 7:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will not accept any hazardous materials, construction debris, televisions or electronics. Please note that our facility is now under video surveillance. Stormwater
What Is Stormwater Pollution?
Water from rain and melting snow that flows over lawns, parking lots and streets is known as stormwater runoff. This water, which travels along gutters, into catch basins and through storm drain pipes and ditches, usually is not treated, but then flows or is discharged into local waterbodies. Along the way, the stormwater picks up trash (fast-food wrappers, cigarette butts, styrofoam cups, etc.) and toxins and other pollutants (gas, motor oil, antifreeze, fertilizers, pesticides and pet droppings). This polluted stormwater can kill fish and other wildlife, destroy wildlife habitat, contaminate drinking water sources and force the closing of beaches because of health threats to swimmers.
Human activity is largely responsible for the stormwater pollution. Everything that we put on the ground or into the storm drain can end up in our water. Each of us has a responsibility to make sure these contaminants stay out of our water. Whether we have clean water is up to you.
